About the Belonging Matters Advisory Council

The Belonging Matters Advisory Council (BMAC) was formed in 2021, to make sure that the work of Belonging Matters is guided by people with a disability.

BMAC Members meet throughout the year to provide feedback and advice to the CEO and Board of Belonging Matters.

BMAC members have also been involved in the following projects:

  • Disability Royal Commission Consultations

  • NDIS Review

  • Talks That Matter Videos 

  • Belonging Matters “Purpose Matters” Conference 

  • Supported Decision Making Workshop

Emily Raymond - BMAC Organiser

Emily works as an Administrative Assistant for Belonging Matters and plays an integral role in the organising of the Belonging Matters’ Advisory Council.  She is passionate about supported decision making, and has recently co-designed and co-facilitated a supported decision-making course for people with intellectual disability.  In addition, Emily has starred in the Talks That Matter video “Supported Decision Making” and Our Views Matter.

 

Emily also works in an administrative role in a Women’s Health organisation and is the business owner of Em’s Gems.  In her spare time, Emily enjoys going to concerts and movies with friends as well as creative pursuits including scrapbooking and card making.

Cameron Skinner

Cameron joined the Belonging Matters’ Advisory Council in 2021.  He has been involved with Belonging Matters for over twenty years, presenting at many Belonging Matters’ conferences and workshops, sharing about his journey to find employment and live in his own home.  Cameron has also co-authored several articles and starred in two Talks that Matter videos “The Receptionist.” “Home and Belonging” and Our Views Matter.

Cameron works as a receptionist at a bookkeeping service in regional Victoria and is a well-known and involved member of his community. He is a passionate Collingwood supporter and in his spare time, enjoys watching sport, especially football and cricket, and spending time with friends.

Amelia Sloan

Amelia has been a member of the Belonging Matters’ Advisory Council since 2021.  She is a volunteer at 45 Downstairs, a not-for-profit theatre/art space in Melbourne and a member of the Melbourne Indie Voices choir.  In addition, she is a Health Ambassador for Down Syndrome Australia and appeared in the Talks That Matter video “Inclusion- Amelia Makes Her Move” and Our Views Matter.

 

In her spare time Amelia enjoys dancing, singing, listening to music, going to live shows and performances, spending time with friends, and cooking.

Harvey O'Dwyer

Harvey has been a member of the Belonging Matters Advisory Council since 2021.  He works at two sports and aquatic centres and runs his own ironing business “Harvey’s Iron Man Service.”  Harvey has starred in two Talks That Matter videos; “Working at Waves” and “Harvey’s Iron Man Service” and Our Views Matter.

 

Outside of work, Harvey is an avid Richmond Tigers supporter and is a member of the cheer squad.  He also enjoys bike riding, Zumba, camping, woodworking, WWE Wrestling, and spending time with his family.

Kez

Kez has been a member of the Belonging Matters’ Advisory Council since 2023.  Kez works as a Retail Team Member in a department store in Regional Victoria and shares about her work in the Talks That Matter video- “Inclusive Employment Matters- Kez and Harris Scarfe” and Our Views Matter. Kez is also an Ambassador of Down Syndrome Victoria.

 

In her spare time, Kez enjoys listening to music- including going to see live bands- as well as watching movies and travelling.
